Volunteering Drives Moon Hockey

Volunteers are the foundation of every successful hockey association. From board members who provide leadership and direction, to team managers who handle countless organizational details, to the dedicated individuals who coordinate tournaments, fundraising activities, and special events, every aspect of the organization depends on volunteer commitment. Behind the scenes, volunteers staff the scorer’s table, manage the penalty box, assist with game-day operations, and help ensure that practices, games, and events run smoothly and efficiently. Their time, energy, and passion create opportunities for young athletes to develop their skills, build friendships, and enjoy the game in a safe and positive environment. Simply put, a hockey association cannot thrive without volunteers—nearly every function that supports players, coaches, and families is driven by the generosity and dedication of individuals who willingly give their time to make the organization successful.

Obligations

As part of the registration process, parents are required to either select the financial opt-out option or agree to fulfill five volunteer hours for each player enrolled in the program. This volunteer commitment helps ensure that the association can successfully operate the many activities and events that support our players and families throughout the season. Opportunities to earn volunteer hours extend well beyond serving on the Board of Directors or as a Team Manager and include, but are not limited to, participating in car washes, organizing and running individual team fundraisers, leading organization-wide fundraising efforts, serving as a penalty box attendant, working the game-day score sheet or clock, and assisting with signature events such as Homecoming, Senior Night, Hockey Fights Cancer, 50/50 scholarship fundraising, and the annual banquet. The success of our association depends on the active involvement of our families, and these volunteer contributions help create a positive experience for all participants while keeping programs affordable and sustainable.
